Hi
Here are the headlines from the National User group meeting yesterday.
2014-15 will be a tough year financially but will improve from next year onwards.
Poor and bad assets are down from 30% to 15% over the last ten years. London, South eat and Kennet and Avon have the best standard of facilities with the Pennine and Manchester Region the worst. Consequently more money will be spent in area of most need.
The lock gate programme will benefit the north west most as they have locks in the worst condition.
More money will be spent on dredging year by year, but it was admitted that emergencies not covered by contingency budget would raid the dredging budget first.
£1.75m has been spent on offside tree programme, with 20 teams involved in cutting back growth from over 200km of canal. This is a continuing programme.
£2m will be spent on damage arising from the recent floods.
A consultation is to begin on CRTs towpath moorings project. They are genuinely keen to resolve problems of availability of moorings. Update on the project can be seen on their website.
Another consultation is taking place on the sharing of towpaths, which will start in March and report in May. The intention is to result in a towpath code for all.
