It is with trepidation that I forward this 'consultation'.
If their charging was correct last year then why an above cpi increase as a head;ine this year?

Every one of the increases is greater than the 4.8% headline - with pumpouts at a swingeing 20%.
It would be 'sensible' rounding if some(or at least one!) were rounded down!

I need some headline grabbing ripostes please!!
Best Wishes

Dear TNUF member

Each year we review our local optional services and our costs/ charges for providing them. We aim to recover our costs, but to avoid undercutting commercial operators. We
gather evidence from comparable services offered on the river, review our income and collect feedback from our Lock staff who sell most of the services. Together this informs our charging proposals.

I am writing to consult you on our intention to increase our local optional charges on the River Thames by 4.8% from 1 April 2014. ‘Local optional charges’ include those for long-term mooring and camping, short-stay camping, overnight moorings, shower tokens and use of our pump outs and the boat hoist.

Please find attached our 2013/14 year charges poster from which you will find some of the current optional charges.

The charges from 1 April 2014 (rounded with last years in brackets) are as follows:

Transient moorings

Mooring only

Mooring with 12kw electric

Mooring with 30kw electric

Craft under 12m

£7.00 (£6.50)

£8.50  (£8.00)

£10.00   (£9.50)

Craft over 12m

£9.00 (£8.50)

£10.50   (£10.00)

£12.00   (£11.50)

Pump out cards – increase from £8.00 to £10.00 (the only specific market-based adjustment).

Overnight camping and showers

Rushey, Shifford, Pinkhill, Days and Hurley locks

£10.50  (£10.00)

All other locks

£7.50    (£7.00)

Shower only

£6.50    (£6.00)

Shower 50% discount for EA licence holders and on site camping customers

£3.50*** (£3.00)

Annual base mooring licences and long-term camping licences (Shiplake & Hurley) would increase by exactly 4.8%  Boat hoist charges would be subject to the same increase and sensible rounding.

Please gather the views of the organisations you represent at TNUF and submit them to Lou Stephenson (lou.stephenson-f0ZH3jOhXny1JAOmVBU6bLSV9hUvwYUHWmv/***@public.gmane.org) by
Friday 7 March 2014. All responses received by the close of play on that date will be considered and fed back to TNUF members during the following week. We aim to reach a final decision by Friday 14 March, to allow administration of the changes with effect from the 1 April 2014.

Thank you for your help with this important annual review.

Kind regards

Julia

Well since you asked, Andy:

"Environment Agency stoop into Dire Straits - money for nothing"

I have heard all the empty arguments about why should a tax payers subsidise the river system for boaters yet still do not accept them. To compare, why should those without children contribute to child benefit? They rightly do. And so should the tax burden of a national historic treasure, be shared among the greater public.

For 20 years without a boat, my general taxes helped subsidise boating for others. Now I have a boat, the nation is contributing less and consequently I, as a boater have to fund a greater part, to the extent that I see very little value for money, nor do I have any say where the monies are spent.

I know some has been wasted on facilities for the very same lock workers they plan to lay off. Too little is spent on maintaining the navigation, to the extent that I can rarely move beyond overgrown trees. But they HAVE shown an ability to plan ahead with this, by changing the licence from one where you pay to move, to one where you pay to exist... stationary.

This is certainly a million miles away from "we're in it together".
